I just got this today, and while I normally wouldn't review something that I haven't used for a while, I feel that this one is pretty easy to assess right up front. As for what it is intended to do, it looks like it will function quite well. As the previous reviewer stated, it does have a fairly strong smell. While the smell itself doesn't bother me, it is slightly concerning and for that I knock a half star off. I bought this 5x8 matt to go under a 5x7 rug, so I was going to have to trim it some. No big deal. However, this mat was not cut accurately at all, and for that it looses a star+ in my book. It is actually just under 7'-2" long (that cut isn't bad, but 8" short). On one end it is 4'-5" wide and on the other end it is 4'-7" wide. Neither side is cut straight at all.

Again, I was ordering a mat that was too large and would need to be trimmed anyway, but this would have been more than annoying if I were trying to use it with an actual 5x8 (or slightly larger) rug. It is saved by a decent price, and the fact that it looks like it will work well for my needs, but the smell and fairly inaccurate dimensions may be a real problem for someone else.

Works well, as you'd expect it to. 50% cheaper than home depot. Has a very strong chemical pvc smell. I'd definitely open it up and let it air out outside for a few days before putting putting it under your rug while it degasses.
